Around one in four dachshunds will have a problem with their back. IVDD is why the stairs are gated, why he goes up the ramp and not the sofa arm, why he's carried and not led down the steps, and why “he's fine, he's only little” is the most frightening sentence a dachshund owner can hear from a sitter.
Another dachshund owner doesn't need any of that explained. They've got the ramp, the harness instead of the collar, and the same quiet dread about a bad landing. That's the whole idea.

Verified profiles
Real names and verified addresses before anyone can host. No anonymous accounts, ever.
Meet on neutral ground
Your first meeting is a coffee or a park, never a handover on a doorstep.
Walk together first
A walk with both dogs before anything is arranged, so you see how they get on.
Build up to overnights
Start with an hour, then an afternoon. Nobody stays over until you've both done the smaller steps.
Vet details, both ways
Vet, insurance, medication and emergency contacts shared in both directions before a single sit.
No money changing hands
Members helping members, so nobody's doing it for the cash — and we'll ask what you make of that once you've signed up.
Why I'm building this
This is Arlo. Dachshunds are pretty unique, and one of the things I've loved since getting one is discovering just how brilliant the dachshund community is.
From sausage walks to chance meetings with other owners, there's a shared love for our little dogs and an instant understanding of all their quirks. I'm building SausageSitting to make it easier for that community to connect locally and help each other out from time to time.

Is it free?
Joining the waitlist is, and the plan is that members help each other rather than pay each other. How that works in practice is genuinely undecided — it's one of the questions we ask after you sign up, and the answers will settle it.
What if something goes wrong?
Every arrangement starts with a meet, a walk together, and vet, insurance and emergency details shared in both directions. Nobody is matched blind, and nothing is a handover to a stranger. Before we launch we'll publish exactly what cover is in place and what happens if a sit goes wrong.
Do I need to sit for others to use it?
No — you can join purely to find care. But the community only works if enough people are willing, so we ask, and we'll always be honest with you about the balance in your area.
How is this different from BorrowMyDoggy?
BorrowMyDoggy connects owners with dog lovers who don't have a dog. We connect dachshund owners with each other. That's the whole difference and it's the important one: your sitter has the ramp, understands IVDD, knows the breed's particular stubbornness — and has a sausage of their own that you can look after in return.
